Summer in Detroit Isn’t Complete Without a Tour Experience
Hi! My name is Rieanna, and I lead our public tour program here at the Detroit Experience Factory (DXF). Over the past few months, I have spent much of my time carefully curating and planning the perfect summer tour schedule with DXF’s tour team for you! This summer we have arranged the perfect mix of tours that explore Detroit’s history, highlight incredible stories, and will connect you to wonderful people of Detroit. Keep reading to see what makes this season’s schedule so special (and maybe even sign-up for a tour or two).
Delivering your classic favorites, and serving up some new options
Since 2006, DXF has supported the adventures of locals and visitors alike, as they discover the magic of an ever-evolving Detroit. This summer, at DXF we continue our classic public tour programming, while also adding new innovative experiences and options to the tour roster. Beginning on Wednesday, May 1, our summer tour programming launched just outside of downtown with a New Center Neighborhood Walking Tour. This is part of a larger Beyond Downtown tour series, highlighting Detroit neighborhoods’ projects and residents and giving participants the opportunity to hear and learn from small business owners, community development organizations and residents across the city. The series also includes Mexicantown/Southwest, Livernois’ Avenue of Fashion, Grandmont-Rosedale, Corktown , The Villages, and additional New Center dates.
Along with an increased focus on neighborhood tours, there are also several new additions to the tour lineup:
Dequindre Cut to Eastern Market MoGo Bike Tour: Explore the colorful Dequindre Cut greenway and wander Eastern Market with our guides and one of the country’s hottest bikeshares, Detroit’s own MoGo.
Cities Within a City Bus Tour: Discover the artwork, culture, and history of two cities, Hamtramck and Highland Park, that sit entirely inside Detroit city limits.
Homegrown Art Bus Tour: Get a behind-the-scenes look at Detroit’s acclaimed arts establishments, and learn Detroit art history from the artists and leaders who make Detroit the hub of creativity.
With these exciting new tours in the lineup, there will also be select offerings of some of our most popular classics, including:
Street Art and Landmarks - Iconic Images Photo Tour: Detroit is a city rich in history, grand buildings, and vibrant art surrounding public spaces. Come along as we visit some of the best places for Instagram glory.
Art in the Market - Eastern Market has received wide recognition as a world-class space for both its historic and new murals. This tour will explore the artists and stories behind these stunning pieces.
Art and Architecture Walking Tour: Walk with Detroit Experience Factory through the downtown area as we explore some of the great contributions of both prolific architects and emerging artists.
One last plug for my personal favorite
Our entire summer tour schedule is an awesome way to gain an understanding of the local culture, history, and way of life in Detroit, all from a local tour guide. One of my favorite tours in the lineup has to be the Drink Detroit: Downtown Patio Bar Tour, as it’s been a long drag of dreary weather, and I am fully ready to share all the wonderful outdoor spaces and places for relishing in the city summer. You will get to explore a mix of Downtown rooftops, patios, and outdoor bars, that highlight the best places to hang on a summer night. Personally, I can’t think of a better way to spend a Thursday evening in the city! We’ve worked hard to bring a lineup of tours that not only deeply aligns with our organizational mission, but also contributes to the fun of exploring this magical city in the summer.
