What's one thing you think people get wrong about Detroit?

People are still amazed that we go to work, go dancing, hangout with friends, go grocery shopping, etc. in the city - they’re fascinated people lead regular lives here. They do and they always have, because Detroit’s never been empty and it’s never been dead.

What Detroiter inspires you the most?

My Great Aunt Mary - a lifelong Detroiter and former Park Shelton resident who made it her mission to always expose me to the magic that is Detroit. She’s the reason I do what I do and love where I live.

Biography

I’m a fourth-generation Detroiter and have always had a passion for exploring my hometown. As DXF's Client Support Specialist, I work on the private tour program, planning customized experiences with and for locals and visitors alike. I’m a proud Michigan State alum and have a B.A. and background in public relations, specializing in healthcare, consumer product and economic development spheres. I’m also a writer, who recently published a Detroit-influenced book of poetry and prose.

Describe your perfect day in Detroit.

A perfect Detroit day is done on a bike - I’d hit The Clique for breakfast on my way out to Belle Isle for a morning on the beach. In my Detroit fantasy world, Eastern Market is open 24/7, so I’d take the Dequindre Cut up there for shopping & snacking. Somehow, I’d also squeeze in a trip to Mama Coos Boutique for any pre-night gems I may need. A quick disco nap before heading to Mi Pueblo for dinner, Motor City Wine for early night going-ons and ending the evening on the dancefloor at Marble Bar. (2am D1 Coney is optional but recommended.)

Where's your favorite place to hang in Detroit during the summer? During the winter?

Summer hangout is Motor City Wine for the always-dancing patio and the friends you meet sharing a table there. I love LJ’s Lounge and Whiskey in the Jar for winter-dive-bar-perfection.

What's your favorite experience DXF offers and why?

Our Innovation and Inspiration Tours are the closest you can get to understanding the incredible impact of Detroit’s small businesses and community organizations in a day. I love seeing people walk away from those tours impressed and excited about what Detroiters are doing for themselves.
