The Executive Director is the key management leader of Detroit Experience Factory (DXF). The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the organization. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing, and community outreach. Operational responsibilities include information technology, SOPs (standard operating procedures), and overall administrative management.  The staff management role encompasses attraction and retention, mentoring, and team building. The ED will collaboratively develop and spearhead the organization’s strategic direction and develop and manage the team and internal processes to support DXF’s growth and sustainable future. The ED will also lead the development of new programs and special projects.

Organization Mission and Strategy

Responsible for working with DXF Team  to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach.

Responsible for the enhancement of DXF's image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations as well as giving high level tours.

Financial Performance and Viability
Responsible for the fiscal integrity of DXF, to include creating an annual budget, ensuring maximum resource utilization, and maintaining a positive financial position for the organization.

Responsible for fundraising and developing other resources necessary to support DXF’s mission.

Organization Operations
Responsible effective administration of DXF's operations including identifying and leveraging technology to increase and amplify the work of DXF.

Responsible for managing HR policies and procedures and hiring and retention of competent, qualified staff including preparing and monitoring team performance reports.



  • A bachelor’s degree

  • Transparent and high integrity leadership

  • Five or more years management experience

  • Solid, hands-on, budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting

  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation

  • Ability to communicate the vision of DXF’s strategic future to staff, advisory board, volunteers and donors

  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations

  • Skills to collaborate with and motivate volunteers and partners

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to interface and engage with diverse stakeholder groups

  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff

  • Strong public speaking ability
