Crazy about Detroit? Looking to join an organization that does impactful work in the city? The Detroit Experience Factory is seeking a part-time Communications Specialist to join their enthusiastic, Detroit-loving staff.

The Communications Specialist is responsible for planning, execution and reporting on all DXF communication activities, both external and internal. Works with team to serve organizational marketing needs, maintain awareness of communications activities, and coordinate marketing and communications across team activities. Provides brand consistent communication to the public through a variety of social media and other traditional channels.

This is a part-time hourly position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Planning

    • Work with team to develop an overall marketing strategy for the organization

    • Develop content plan, including draft content, for all social media channels

    • Develop content strategy and plan for other traditional channels - including newsletter, blogs, press releases, news articles, etc.

    • Maintain brand consistency in team’s materials and messaging

    • Monitor success of plans and recommend updates as required

    • Support leadership in developing and updating of communication policies

  2. Execution

    • Post content to social media and share with other traditional channels according to content plan and ad-hoc as required

    • Actively manage social media communities to increase engagement, exposure, and maintain on-brand social media presence

    • Coordinate with DXF team to manage website including program descriptions, tours listings, visual assets, etc.

    • Capture live photos and videos of DXF events and Detroit-related content for social media posts and development of original content (yes, you get to go on Detroit tours for free in this role!)

    • Oversee custom content development, with external support as needed

    • Develop content for other traditional media channels as needed

    • Manage distribution of newsletter

    • Order and update print collateral, checklists, brochures, biz cards, t-shirts, event signage, etc.

    • Complete other related duties as assigned

  3. Reporting

    • Gather data on marketing and communications activity from all channels

    • Analyze data to recognize trends and inform strategy and decision-making

    • Support in preparing data reports (including visuals) for various stakeholders highlighting marketing and communications data

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Strong customer service and presentation skills

  • Strong communication and networking skills

  • Strong writing and document design skills

  • Basic experience with photography and video

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and G Suite

  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively

  • Proactive and independent work ethic

Preferred Qualifications

  • Detroit residency / high level of Detroit knowledge

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field

  • 1-3 years of related experience

  • Experience in photography and video editing

  • Experience with social planning tools (ie: Hootsuite, Sprout, etc.)

  • Competency in Adobe Creative Suite (PhotoShop, InDesign, etc.)

  • Experience with public relations
